Fernley Chamber Christmas Parade Rings In Season Of Giving

The Fernley Chamber of Commerce conducted its annual Christmas Parade yesterday evening. In spite of bone-chilling temperatures and an earlier snow storm, several hundred--many opting to watch from the warmer environs of their cars--lined Main Street to take in the sights and sounds of the season.

Fernley Mayor Todd Cutler bailed from the lead vehicle to hand out candy canes along the parade route that started at Hwy. 95-A and culminated at the City Hall complex. Afterward, Santa and Mrs. Claus were available for photo opportunities at the firehouse on Main Street.

As part of the tradition, just about every entry in the parade had candy treats to toss to youngsters along the way. The kids scrambled to pick up the sugary delights they couldn't catch.

The Zoo 'n Around float featured a van-top display and pulled a float as well.

Young people were a fixture of the parade, not only watching the event but riding on any number of floats.

Even the Mr. Rooter van was decked out in Christmas lights with what appears to be a real live elf riding on the roof.

This spirited float featured young ladies singing Christmas carols.

The Fernley Rotary Club float featured a Christmas tree, lots of presents--that would later be distributed at the fire house--and lots of lights!

Here's my lovely better half, Jarda, and Cindy Lara following the Rotary Club float. It's a good thing she has heated seats in that car... Brrrrrrr!

What would a Christmas Parade be without Santa and Mrs. Claus making an appearance? They left the sleigh and reindeer parked at the North Pole and rode on a fire engine instead.

Merry Christmas!!!

  1. I am one of those so called girls singing christmas carols. Our motivation is a group we made up ourselves called ''Teens For Troops.''We are going to be making a magazine filled with stories from around the country and be sending many copies to the troops in Iraq and Afganastan. We want people to send in things or call us to put things in this magazine. We think the troops would be very grateful to know that we support them and that someone cares about them.People say that teenagers are bad kids and we would like to change that.We want to show that teens that are given the chance can make a positive influence in the world.
